[27/02/2009] - Elevfloor – New fire resistance certificates (REI 30)
|
|
Oddicini Industrie S.p.A. has successfully certified Elevfloor raised floor according to the new standards on fire resistance.
In fact, starting from the end of september 2007, also the manufacturers of raised floor must officially document the fire reaction characteristics of their products, defined experimentally by the european harmonized standards UNI EN 13501-2 and UNI EN 1366-6.
In particular, the new standards imply harder tests on the characteristics of the materials than previously stated:
- the dimensions of the tested area upsizes from 2,4x1,8 mt to 4x3 mt - the panels are tested with a distributed load not lower than 1,5 kN/m2 - because of the greater dimensions of the tested area, the panels must guarantee the same fire resistance characteristics in any point, no matter the shape or the presence of perimetral cuts of the panels.
Moreover, EN 13501-2 standard defines minimum and maximum requirements for raised floors (att. A.4.4):
Therefore, the maximum index for a raised floor is
REI 30
The same standard (D.M. 16 February 2007) also defines the validity for the old certificates: from 1 to five years starting from the date of issue and in any case not beyond 25 September 2012.
In consequence of this, any enquiry for raised floors with fire resistance higher than REI 30 has to be considered out of place, even if it is necessary to specify that such certifications were originally possessed and that the constructive characteristics of Elevfloor remain unchanged.
